Counselling and therapy in Exeter

Welcome to my website

If you are seeking long-term counselling please note that I am planning to be on sabbatical for 3 months between March-June 2019 and will not be available during this time.

There are many reasons why people seek counselling and therapy. Often a life-crisis will trigger a need for extra support, or may bring up feelings or memories that it would be helpful to explore in more depth. Sometimes people come to counselling because they feel they are at an impasse in their lives, or going through a life-change, and want to explore what might come next. Or we may feel overwhelmed by family or work issues for example, and want a safe space to talk about how these issues are affecting our lives. You do not have to be experiencing a crisis to come to counselling. Sometimes in our lives we go through times when, for whatever reason, we need some extra support for a while. Counselling and therapy provide a place to talk with someone who is specifically trained to listen, reflect, explore and guide with empathy and compassion. I am a counsellor practising in the Pennsylvania area of Exeter, Devon, near to the Streatham Campus of Exeter University. I qualified in 2004 and since then I have worked in various settings, as well as seeing clients at my home. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and as such I am committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment.

I work with individuals on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period. At the moment, because I will be taking a sabbatical in the first half of 2019, I am offering short/medium-term counselling, up to February 2019. As a counsellor my aim is to support you in working with what can be complex life issues and feelings, and to enable you to make choices that are right for you, thus hopefully enhancing the capacity to live life more fully. My role is not to give you all the answers. I see it more as enabling you to explore possible answers and ways forward for yourself and to support you in this process.

I am experienced in helping clients in the following areas:

  • Bereavement and other kinds of loss
  • Illness and recovery
  • Caring for loved ones who are ill
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Personal development
  • Self-esteem
  • Life choices and transitions
  • Faith and spirituality
  • Relationships
  • Family issues

My life experience includes treatment for breast cancer in 2010-11 as well as living with bouts of depression in the past.
To find out more about me and the counselling I practice please see the following pages on this website.

I presently have daytime and limited early evening sessions available.
Sessions last one hour and the fee is 40. I offer the first session at half-price as this is more of an exploratory session.
I am located very near to Exeter University and offer a small number of slots at reduced rates for students. Please ask about availability.
